VO2 - to the max!

VO2 max, which represents the maximum rate of oxygen consumption during exercise, is closely linked to longevity. Here’s how it works:

  1. Higher VO2 Max, Longer Lifespan: Research consistently shows that individuals with higher VO2 max levels tend to live longer. These people have a greater chance of survival compared to those with lower cardiorespiratory fitness12.
  2. Reduced Risks: Higher VO2 max scores are associated with lower risks of cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, and overall mortality. Even levels that are average or slightly above lead to several years of increased lifespan compared to lower fitness levels13.

In summary, maintaining good cardiorespiratory fitness, as reflected by VO2 max, positively impacts longevity.
